23. BOYER DE SAINTE-SUZANNE (Victor-Emile-Charles). Notes d' - Lot 23
23. BOYER DE SAINTE-SUZANNE (Victor-Emile-Charles). Notes d'un curieux. Monaco, Journal de Monaco, 1878. Gd in-8, 434 p., [2] f., red half-chagrin with corners, ornate ribbed spine, double gilt fillet on spines, gilt head, original cover preserved.
An unusual work, only 300 numbered copies were printed on laid paper. The Baron shares with us the most singular things he has noticed about the theater actors of ancient Rome, Cardinal Mazarin's inventory, the administrators of the ancien régime, the tapestries woven in the haute lisse and basse lisse styles, etc. We also discover the extensive correspondence between Charles Nodier and Jean Debry.
A copy with an ex-dono whose addressee has been scratched out, and stuffed with a letter from the publisher to Raymond de Boyer de Sainte-Suzanne, informing him that his grandfather's handwritten notes were recovered over fifteen years ago by Jolivet, secretary to the government.
