80 [JORDAN (Charles-Etienne)]. Histoire d'un voyage littérai - Lot 80
80 [JORDAN (Charles-Etienne)]. Histoire d'un voyage littéraire, fait en M. DCC. XXXIII en France, en Angleterre, et en Hollande avec un discours préliminaire de Mr La Croze. The Hague, A. Moetjens, 1736. In-12, xxiv, 204 p., [21] f., marbled fawn basane, ornate ribbed spine (contemporary binding). Second edition, the first had appeared the previous year and was a great success in literary circles, so full is it of literary curiosities and bibliophile information. Going from library to library, pen in hand, Jordan takes notes as he goes along this joyous journey. For example, he introduces us to the sacred psalms of Artus Désiré: Lower the arrogant pride of this giant, abominable, who calls himself Jehan Calvin, Old wine-sack, Member of the devil. Provenance: Charles Antoine de Billy d'Anthilly (1684-1763) and his wife Marie-Anne de Billy, who left their bookplate to the normographer. Small leather loss to binding, pages uniformly browned and other minor defects. (Barbier, II, 659).
