193. FAVART (Charles-Simon). Mémoires et correspondance litt - Lot 193
193. FAVART (Charles-Simon). Mémoires et correspondance littéraires, dramatiques et anecdotiques, publiés par A. P. C. Favart, son petit-fils et précédés d'une notice historique, rédigée sur pièces authentiques et originales par H. F. Dumolard. Paris, L. Collin, 1808. 3 vols. in-8, lxxxvi, 308 p. ; 440 p. ; 328 p., green half calf with smooth spine (binding signed at the end but illegible). Memoirs of theater and comic opera author Charles-Simon Favart (1710-1792). Favart began in a style inspired by Virgil, but soon turned to writing comedies and parodies, mixing spoken dialogue and song. Described by George Sand (for whom it is one of the sources of her Consuelo) as an interesting real-life backstage novel, it contains countless anecdotes about theatrical life under Louis XV. Bindings a little rubbed, one headband damaged, freckles and other minor defects.
