284. LA CUISINE (Henry de). Sketches of animals from life. U - Lot 284
284. LA CUISINE (Henry de). Sketches of animals from life. Undated (circa 1863). Small oblong sketchbook, 44 painted compositions, muted gray cloth. Numerous paintings of domestic animals, with a predilection for dogs and horses, but also exotic wild animals (zebras, lions, monkeys, etc.), restored prehistoric animals and even fantastic creatures that locals claimed to have seen. In the case of the latter, the artist carefully records the testimony beneath his sketch, but adds in red ink and in capital letters: without guarantee.
