374. [Restraining instruments for women]. Set of 2 illustrated historical essays.
- FINOT (Jean), Les muselières pour femmes et autres supplices, with curious contemporary illustrations. Paris, Eugène Figuière, s.d. (early 20th century). In-12, paperback, 95 pages printed on laid paper, hors-texte engravings. First edition, very rare. Jean Finot (1856-1922) was an avant-garde sociologist and one of the few French intellectuals of the early 20th century to radically oppose racist theories with scientific pretensions and social Darwinism. His humanist theses, condemning injustice, led him to support feminist struggles.
A few small brown spots, otherwise a fine copy.
- CAUFEYNON (Dr.). The chastity belt. Its history, its use then and now. Numerous hors-texte engravings, life drawings and photographs. Paris, P. de Poorter, 1904. In-12 paperback, 127 p., ill. printed cover. A few small brown spots, otherwise a good copy.
